Reflections - January 1, 2017

“Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart.”  Lk. 2:19.

At the beginning of a new year we renew our hope for a better world.  How well the Church declares this when they propose the celebration of Saint Mary Mother of God in the Day of Peace.

However, we all know that many of the problems that plagued us in the past year will continue latent, perhaps in a different way, this new year, but with the hope that “The Lord will bless us and keep us and let his face shine upon us and be gracious to us and give us peace.”  Num. 6:24-26.

Pope Francis says it very well:  The Lord never hides His face!  The Lord has infinite patience with us!  The Lord does not promise magical changes……Loves changing reality from within with patience and love; asks to enter our lives with delicacy, like the rain that soaks the earth, to later bear fruits.  The Lord always waits for us and looks at us with tenderness.  Every morning upon awakening we can say:  “Today as the Year begins as it does each day the Lord reflects His face to shine upon me”.

Pope Francis continues to say:  “May the Lord look upon you kindly and give you peace”  Num. 6:26.  The peace that God, the Father, wants to plant in the world must be cultivated by us…….be conquered.  This implies an authentic struggle, a spiritual struggle that takes place in our hearts.  Because not only is war the enemy of peace, but also “indifference” is an enemy of peace.  It makes you think only of yourselves and creates barriers, suspicions, fears, and closed hearts.  All these things are enemies of peace.

Let us go to the Mother of Christ, the Mother of hope and peace.  Praying the Rosary with your family helps us to implore peace for a world that seeks, at times, peace through paths of hatred and selfishness, which goes outside the Plan of God.

The Pope ends by saying:  May the Queen of Peace, the Mother of God, for whom today we celebrate this Solemnity, help us.  She “kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart”, Lk. 2:19.  “Hopes and worries, gratuity and problems:  all these things that happened in life was transformed in the heart of Mary through prayer and dialog with God.  She also does this with us:  protects the joys and unties the knots in our lives bringing us to the Lord”.
Queen of Peace, pray for us.

Happy New Year.
